Visualization and Meditation

For me, visualization and meditation are the two practices I like to go to for relaxation. Since I am a visual learner, visualization works really well for me. It is easy and relaxing for me to visualize some of my favorite places that I haven't been to in awhile but bring so much joy to me. Also, the practice of meditation really helps me relax. I find myself being tense frequently but I don't notice it until I take a few moments to meditate or when I do my breathing exercises. Meditation brings a calmness into a hectic life, which I have right now. Calmness is always a welcome sensation. Both practices can be done almost anywhere. I definitely don't recommend trying either practice while driving in a car! But if you are the passenger, go for it! Calming the mind helps us to walk through life in a more relaxed state. When you are more relaxed you are calmer and more tuned in to your surroundings. I think this puts you in a frame of mind where you are present and aware. Being present and aware fosters mental fitness. You need to use your brain and keep it fit especially as you age. A fit brain is a healthy brain.

  1. Hi Kathleen,

These are two great exercises to use. I think its good the visualization can help also on a plane if you have a fear of flying, taking your mind somewhere else. Although you are a visual earner, I think you should also incorporate some of the other practices into your routine. They were are great to me in one way or another. I agree when you are more relaxed you are calmer and tuned in to your surrounding. Keep working on your human flourishing.

  2. Hi Kathleen,
I totally agree with the visualization and meditation. For me, it has been my way to heal myself. It not only helps me stay calm it allows me to talk to any organ in the body in order to find the energy I might have lost to certain processes. I lie down to meditate, but visualization I can do almost anywhere all I have to do is close my eyes. I think having peace in your life is so important, because it makes you more stable and also helps your credibility. When you are in a healing profession having credibility is important for not only your clients, but also the public if you plan to speak about what you do.
    Thanks,
    Mary Derry

  3. Hello Kathleen! Visualization and meditation are definitely great for relaxation and so much more – depending on what you want to get out of the practice. I tend to do the same thing as you – unless I take the time to stop and recognize my behavior patterns, I tend to get very tense or wound up. I couldn’t agree with you more – being calmer helps us to address situations and life in general in a more relaxed, alert, and effective way! I also loved your last line “A fit brain is a healthy brain”... nice! Hope you are having a happy and healthy start to your 2014 New Year.
